Something Old, Something New

The Collegiate
Mixed Media on Canvas

So today was the day Irma and I displayed some of our recent artwork in the Majestic Sheridan Hallway Gallery. These three are pieces that I have worked on over for the past few months. I posted the "Little Mermaid" a while ago. I thought I should post all the pieces that are hanging to show the collective aesthetic. These were really fun to do. I tried to mix my old style of working with new techniques I have been influenced by lately. It's been so long since I have used graphite. I used to work with detailed graphite ever since grade school. Being at College has influenced me to use other media. I decided to combined the draftsmanship of pencil with multiple types of washes of paint. The collective theme is home. I wanted to show things that I miss, like my family, friends, and high school. I enjoy representing my home town in my work. I feel more pride than ever coming from a small town. So if you have a chance go check out mine and Irma's work. Thanks in advance for the support.

P.S. Today I watched a film called "Being There". It was Peter Sellers last film he made before he passed away. It's not like his usual comedies; however, it was still very quirky and emphasizes the simplicity of human behavior. I recommend watching this film if you have the time, or if you feel like watching something to help your soul smile.

wow... you are really stepping it up this year, gregorhawk!
i really like some of this personal stuff.
especially the use of graphite... i've always thought it gives a nice feel over top of paint.

my favorite would have to be the "girls" one.
who are the people in the picture?
it'd be cool to know more about your thought processes behind these works.

Thanks. Recently I have found myself in front of a computer screen for most of my projects. So I decided to balance myself out and do something completely raw. What's more basic than pencil, right? The girls in the the drawing are my friends Jessica and Alexandra from the Bay.
