It's kind of like when you are trying to leave a party, and you constantly run into people on the way out. I see the door, it's so close! To be courteous you mingle, then leave. That's how I feel about illustration right now. The door represents the end of the semester and the people represent the assignments. My mind in many ways has already left on a plane to go back home. The theme of this semester has been polish and credibility. I have been trying to make my work as presentable as possible to everyone with a high level of polish and sophistication. I feel like it's time to start proving myself. Some call it the "next level" and some call it "baditude", I just call it becoming a professional. I'm not trying to be cocky, I take full advantage of my student/learning environment situation.
The pictures above are for a redesign for a subscription card you would find in JUXTAPOZ Art and Culture Magazine. It's a two sided card: one side being a dominant image and the other having the mailing information. I played with the title of juxtapoz, and had fun putting different ideas together. A while back I doodled this weird, organic design. So I reintroduced it to my project. The whole idea is that the front leads your eye to the backside using a cutout. Just when you were wondering what those organic designs were, they turn out to be fish guts! Ewwwwww! I love working with juxtapositions, even more so than metaphors or narratives. It was a fun little project.
