Retrospect & The Local Show

Summer has started a little slow. I have no job and no money to fool around with, so i really have little to do with my time. In the last couple days the sketchbook has been comprised of life drawings and doodles from around Thunder Bay. I haven't started to draw people yet, just chairs, planes, seagulls and an old factory. I am enjoying the ball point pen, it gives good gradation and tone. I haven't touched any heavy media yet. I went to a local art show at a trendy new restaurant yesterday. The show was put on by a local artist named Guy Dufrense, his stuff isn't bad. It's a mix of abstract expressionist brushstrokes and landscapes. It amazed me how expensive he was selling his paintings for. Fair sized canvas, with acrylic would sell for around $300-$750. Unreal! This gives me so much hope for the future. I however need to find a venue or a friendly contact who can set up a show and get me some publicity. I would have to do a whole new series, because let's face it, my artwork I produced this year was a little lack-luster. I enjoyed things that i have learned, but nothing I created really excited me. This multi-media piece of Jeff Buckley is probably my most favourite piece. It may not look like anything special, but it turned out exactly the way I wanted it too. It is a mixture of Acrylic, Collage, and Ink/Toner Transfers on Wood. I want to work big now and start putting a price on things, it's about damn time i make some money for my artwork. It's kind of my future.
